| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - The true adventures and experiences of a pre-teen mestiza (her father was Filipino, mother Irish) living in the outskirts of Manila during the war and just after. Written for youngsters, the book brings out the author's character in a time of war, enjoying some of it, saddened by other events; obedient at times, rebellious at others. About half of the book occurs during the Japanese occupation, with the remaining half on life after the return of the Americans. Well illustrated by child-like drawings showing highlights of the book. While the personal experiences are interesting, some of the historical matter is not correct. A Philippine edition of this book was published in 2005, entitled "Barefoot in Fire: A World War II Childhood." - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
