Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Dramatic narrative of a Filipino officer caught by the war pursuing advanced studies in the US. He volunteered his services and was sent to Australia, where he and others like him were trained to be intelligence agents for MacArthur. He was sent to the island of Mindoro by submarine in November 1943, as part of a coast watcher group headed by Maj. Lawrence H. Phillips. In Mindoro, the team set up a radio station named ISRM (I Shall Return MacArthur) and reported Japanese ship and aircraft movements in and around Manila, as seen from Mindoro and through strategically located agents. The Japanese were aware of station ISRM and launched many raids to destroy it. Maj. Phillips was eventually caught by surprise and killed; Galang moved on to Luzon and joined the guerrillas there, deep behind Japanese lines. A tale of courage told as if it was nothing extraordinary. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
