| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Very vivid personal account of a young Filipino officer: PMA cadet scheduled to graduate in March 1942 is engulfed by war on the first day, and thrust into battle. His entire class was commissioned ahead of schedule, and the young officers became company commanders in the 3rd Infantry Regiment, 1st Regular Division, Philippine Army. Narrates his experiences from the first day of the war through hasty commissioning and being sent to the front line. Detailed discussion of conditions in the front line (Mauban and Morong; Battle of the Pockets in Bataan), and ultimate defeat due to lack of food and medicine. Col. Rio was awarded the Bronze Star for his actions. He escaped the death march and made his way to his home town in Panay, where he joined the guerrillas and kept up the fight. Well written, including his private thoughts at the time. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
