Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - A researched popular history written by a husband and wife team: Michael was a former New York Times reporter and Marine Vietnam veteran while Elizabeth trained as a nurse and now teaches at New York University. Based on interviews and primary sources, the book, which follows the experiences of cowboy-turned-soldier-turned-artist Ben Steele, sheds some new light on the Bataan campaign and the death march, especially from the Japanese perspective. Vivid and readable, but not much on the Filipino role in the battle, or their sufferings in the march. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
