Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Unique memoir of a girl who grew up in Hong Kong, daughter of a prominent family. She was educated in England, returned to Hong Kong and volunteered to help in China's war effort against Japan by proceeding to China's interior. She left to travel in the South Pacific, but was caught in Manila when the war started. She was interned in Santo Tomas and Los BaƱos. Based on her diary, the book presents a view of internment by one who had been in the Philippines for only a short time before the war. In internment camp, she fell in love with a fellow internee; they were married after the war. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
