| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - This book deals with the saga of Commander Charles "Chick" Parsons, legendary intelligence agent and liaison man between MacArthur and the guerrillas in the Philippines. Parsons was a reserve US Navy officer managing the Luzon Stevedoring Company. He was in Manila when the war broke out, and stayed on even when the Japanese occupied the city, evading internment by claiming neutrality as Panamanian consul. He kept notes of Japanese occupation techniques, and was able to present these to US officials when he was repatriated in 1942. Having spent much time in the Philippines, he was familiar with Philippine waters and was sent by MacArthur to Mindanao by submarine to contact the guerrillas, consolidate them and work out submarine supply missions. His organization became known as "Spyron" (short for Spy Squadron) under the Allied Intelligence Bureau, and Parsons made several trips in and out of Japanese-occupied Philippines to help coordinate the guerrillas. Written for a juvenile audience, many liberties are taken by the author with facts and conversations (Parsons' son considers it a work of fiction). - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
