| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Personal account of an American missionary and his family during the Japanese occupation. Johnson sailed for China in 1939, but his ship was rerouted and the Johnsons arrived instead in Manila. He began missionary work in northern Luzon, and was in Baguio when the war started.
He narrates the beginning of the war in Baguio, the arrival of the Japanese, and internment in Camp John Hay. As missionaries, he and his wife were allowed to live outside camp, but were later reinterned; Johnson was suspected of being a guerrilla or a spy and was subject to torture, before being returned to Camp Holmes. The internees were brought to Bilibid Prison in December 1944, and were liberated by US troops in February 1945. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
