| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Well-researched account of American civilians trapped by the war in the island of Panay. These families were of different backgrounds: some were miners, others were missionaries. All were caught up in the war and were unable to return to the US.
A few joined the guerrillas, others were interned in civilian camps, while others tried to live in the mountains outside Japanese control. A number of those living outside Japanese control were discovered by the Japanese in a hideout called Hopevale and were executed. This incident prompted MacArthur, in Australia, to attempt to evacuate other Americans by submarine. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
