Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Journalistic account of the operations of the Allied Intelligence Bureau, which was the part of Gen. MacArthur's headquarters in Australia which supplied arms and equipment to the guerrilla fighters in the Philippines, New Guinea and elsewhere in the Southwest Pacific. Told through vignettes and anecdotes of the men who were there. Basic general account, highlighting the feats of Maj. Jesus Villamor, Charles "Chick" Parsons, Dr. Emigdio Cruz and other key individuals who were sent to the Philippines by submarine. Also mentions the Japanese Navy plans captured by the Cebu guerrillas in 1944 (see Segura's "The Koga Papers" for the Filipino role and perspective). Ind paints stories of success, but omits any mention of the friction within the AIB and its agents; Ind, who was deputy head of the bureau, does not write about his own role in the AIB and the costly rivalry between him and his senior in the intelligence branch, Gen. Charles A. Willoughby. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
