| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - The Battle of Zigzag Pass was fought in early 1945, on the road to Olongapo from Dinalupihan. The pass was strategic in that it opened the way to Olongapo and Subic Bay, and also sealed off the Japanese soldiers in Bataan. This monograph deals with the tough fighting by the 38th Infantry Division (the "Liberators of Bataan") for the steep and winding Zigzag Pass. The monograph deals specifically with the 149th Infantry Regiment of the division; the author was the Executive Officer of one company of this unit. Also discusses operations prior to the battle itself, from the amphibious landing of the division, terrain, specific objectives. Mentions the help given by Filipino guerrillas. Fighting in the battle was very difficult, involving scaling cliffs and close quarters jungle fighting. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
