Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Unpublished memoir by an American airman, a crewmember of one of the B-17s sent to reinforce the Philippines shortly before the outbreak of war in 1941. He was at Clark Field when the Japanese bombed it on the first day of the war, and wound up as a foot soldier in Bataan. He provides an eyewitness account of the surrender, the Death March, POW life in Cabanatuan, the grueling work detail at Nichols Field. He fell ill and was sent to the POW hospital at Bilibid Prison, and was returned to Cabanatuan where he was liberated in the dramatic rescue operation of February 1945. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
