Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Military monograph on the operations of a battalion in combat, from approach march to counter-attack, defense and withdrawal.
The 45th Infantry Regiment (Philippine Scouts) was one of two professionally trained infantry regiments on Luzon in 1941, but it was not employed as a regiment. Instead, its battalions and companies were committed to separate areas; in this case, the 3rd Battalion was pressed to bolster the Abucay Line when Japanese forces outflanked it in the jungles of Mount Natib.
The author was Executive Officer of this battalion, which rendered effective service and accomplished its mission, even though confronted with superior Japanese forces. Very detailed chronological account. Besbeck credits the efficiency of his battalion to the trained men under him and especially the leadership and character of the battalion commander, who was later killed in action. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
