Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Military monograph based on the author’s experience as a company commander of the 57th Infantry Regiment, Philippine Scouts, from the start of the war through the first month of the fighting in Bataan. The author describes the operations of his company in the defense of the Abucay Line, when the regiment was attacked by superior Japanese forces. The monograph ends with the unit withdrawing to the reserve battle position, or the Pilar-Bagac Line. The 57th Infantry (Philippine Scouts) was an elite, professional unit of Filipinos led by American officers. Based on the author’s notes (some of which were buried in Cabanatuan and their bodies recovered after the war) and conversations with fellow officers in prisoner-of-war camp, the monograph is written chronologically, like a diary, ending with combat lessons learned from the operations described. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
