Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Part memoir, part general researched account of the Asiatic Fleet and its battles against the Japanese onslaught in the Philippines and Indonesian (Netherlands East Indies then) area. The author was an enlisted man and was based in the Cavite Navy Yard. He claims to have briefly been with PT41 (the flagship of the famous Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 3 under Commander Bulkeley). His story is atypical since he says he was captured as a civilian in Manila and was interned in Santo Tomas. The Japanese discovered that he was a navy man and thus interrogated him in Fort Santiago before transferring him to Bilibid and Cabanatuan. He was brought to Japan on a POW hell ship and was forced to work in a coal mine. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
