Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Report prepared by the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-2 (intelligence) and the Assistant Chief of Staff, G-3 (operations) of XIV Corps headquarters detailing Japanese personnel and organization, tactics, weapons, fortifications and operations in the defense of Manila in February 1945. A study on American assault tactics used in overcoming the Japanese defenses is also provided. Detailed maps and photographs follow the narrative report, which was meant to derive lessons in city fighting against the Japanese. This was an important report at that time since it would provide indications of what might be faced in a landing on Japan. Based on recovered Japanese documents (many of which are quoted) as well as actual battlefield experience and evidence, the focus of this report is on combat and military operations. Japanese atrocities on the civilians are mentioned briefly. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
