- Summary, etc. - “Invasion plans, preparations, and operations of the 16th and 48th Divisions. Operational plans of the 4th Division for the second phase of the Bataan Operation. Some data on Corregidor and other Manila Bay fortifications and installations. Gives detailed information on artillery, including missions, employment, and firing data. Outlines General Homma’s personal estimate of the Bataan situation as of February 1942 and gives a resume of U.S. defense operations on Luzon, Bataan, and Corregidor. Many maps and charts. (Unedited translation, 109 pages)”
Essentially documentary appendices to Japanese Monograph No. 1: orders, maps, charts, mostly on the Bataan and Corregidor campaign. Includes landing and operation plans, details of Corregidor and other harbor forts after their fall; estimates of US strategy in Luzon; Gen. Homma’s notes during the Bataan campaign. The 16th and 48th Divisions were Japanese Army divisions which invaded the Philippines in December 1941; the 4th Division was sent to bolster Homma’s forces in March 1942. Not all maps translated or included here. Handwritten annotations/corrections. Nothing on Japanese maltreatment of the Filipino and American prisoners of war.
