Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - “Subjugation operations in various islands briefly covered. Cites steps taken to prevent supply of guerrilla units by U.S. submarines and planes. Covers movement of Headquarters, Southern Army, to Manila and efforts of the 14th Army to effect defense preparations while simultaneously subduing guerrillas and insurgents. Contains some discussion on the Philippines as a logistical base for the Southern Theater of Operations. (Unedited translation, 56 pages)” Written in 1946 (originally Vol. 31), by ex-Col Yasuji Okada. Told in outline form, sometimes quoting orders of battle. Impersonal. Focuses on subjugation operations (anti-guerrilla operations) and plans for defending the Philippines before US forces were near the Philippines; role of the Philippines in supporting operations in the southern region (Solomons, New Guinea). Maps, diagrams, charts. Handwritten annotations/corrections. No mention of Japanese atrocities against civilians during this middle phase of the war, between the Japanese invasion and the US return. *Citations in quotation marks from: U.S. Army.
