Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - “An account of the 35th Army’s defense of the Southern Philippines (areas south of Luzon and Mindoro). Gives full coverage of the defense of Leyte, including plans and preparations from the Headquarters level. Describes the withdrawal of the 35th Army troops to Cebu and provides some coverage of the defense of Mindanao and other islands. Many maps and charts. (Unedited translation, 171 pages)” On title page: “Record of 35th Army Operation.” Dated October 1946, Compiled from data reported by ex-Maj Masataka Iwano of Imperial General Headquarters; to which were added the recollections of ex-35th Army Assistant Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Yoshiharu Tomochika. Edited by ex-Col. Ryoichiro Aoshima, with the assistance of Rigai Watanabe of the 35th Army staff, and former division staff officers. The manuscript notes that because of the variety of sources, “incorrect dates and numerical figures of troops and over-lapping of incidents must be tolerated.” Is in outline form, with orders, figures and unit organization mixed into the general narrative. Maps and charts. *Citations in quotation marks from: U.S. Army. Office of the Chief of Military History. "Guide to Japanese Monographs and Japanese Studies on Manchuria."
