Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - A sequel to the author's earlier work, "Tabunan," this book supplements Col. Segura's previous book by compiling additional accounts and details of various incidents, personalities, battles and guerrilla units in Cebu during the Japanese occupation of Cebu. Although sources are not cited, the book has an air of authenticity because Col. Segura was an officer in the Cebu Area Command, kept many guerrilla documents and knew the participants personally. Here he tells many of their stories, heretofore unknown. The title comes from the first chapter, providing the Filipino perspective of the capture of the important Japanese Navy documents from the crash site of Combined Fleet Admiral Koga's plane. This plane and that of the second highest Japanese Navy officer crashed off Cebu; the second-in-command, Adm. Fukudome, was rescued by the guerrillas as well. The papers were transported to Australia by submarine, translated and rushed to US Navy forces, which were able to thwart the Japanese Navy as a result. As with "Tabunan," some documents are reproduced, as well as relevant photographs. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
