Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Detailed history of the Fil-American guerrillas on Cebu during World War II, written by an officer in (and post-war historian of) the Cebu Area Command. Covers the entire war in Cebu, from pre-war defense situation through the Japanese invasion, occupation and the formation of guerrilla units. Mentions specifics not available elsewhere: personalities (from the CAC leader, Col. James M. Cushing down to individual soldiers), battles, triumphs (highlighted by the recovery of Japanese Navy war plans in 1944), losses (through Japanese counterattacks and raids), and the liberation of Cebu in 1945. Although there is no bibliography, it is obvious that the author used primary materials and interviews with veterans whom he knew personally. Several documents and maps are reproduced, as well as relevant photographs. The book's title is the name of the guerrilla headquarters in the mountains. Although captured by the Japanese in an anti-guerrilla drive, the headquarters served as the symbol of resistance. An important book recording Filipino side of the resistance movement in one of the major islands in the Visayas. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
  • Summary, etc. - "First published in 1975, American scholar and bibliographer Mortin J. Netzorg has called it "the best and most coherent record of the whole guerilla movement on the island of Cebu." It may well be the best account of any provincial guerilla movement in the whole country... Drawing from his own experience and the personal stories of many fellow guerillas, Segura weaves into the book a richly detailed, manystranded narrative of men and women in war. Tabunan is a stirring narrative well-told." - From the Introduction of Dr. Resil B. Mojares
