Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Account of not only the German Club in Manila, but also its members and the German Community. Compiled and written by the History Committee of the German Club, chaired by Walter Kuehne; a key member was Edgar J. Krohn, Jr., who lived through the Japanese occupation and has collected many documents and photographs of historical significance. Published on the 80th anniversary of the club’s founding, it contains an interesting account of the club and its members during World War II and the Japanese occupation (pp. 51-66) (quoting from members’ recollections). The German Club was the site of a major atrocity by the Japanese in 1945, when the Japanese massacred those who sought refuge there. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
