Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Researched account of both Col. Kangleon's and the Leyte guerrillas' experiences during the war. Narrates Kangleon's service in Mindanao before the surrender of the USAFFE (he was awarded a Bronze Star for his heroism), his becoming a prisoner of war in Butuan, escape to Leyte and the organization of the Leyte guerrillas. Kangleon, as commander of the Leyte Area Command, was later awarded a Distinguished Service Cross by the US for his exploits. Also narrates the experiences of several Leyteño guerrillas, whom the author (a native of Leyte) interviewed. The Leyte guerrillas played a vital part in the war, both during the occupation and also during MacArthur's return. Names of members of the guerrilla unit are given in an appendix. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
