  • Summary, etc. - Account of an American Bataan veteran and POW as recorded and written by his son. Abel Sr. was in the 192nd Tank Battalion which was sent to the Philippines just before war broke out. He talks briefly about his experiences in the defense of the beaches and Bataan, but the bulk of the book on surrender and after: Death March, Camp O'Donnell, Cabanatuan, Lipa, Camp Murphy, Bilibid, and then hell ship (Hokusen Maru) to Takao and to Japan (on the Melbourne Maru). Although told in the first person, Abel Sr.'s story was written by Abel Jr., with some research to confirm places, names and for photographs. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
