Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - The US Army's Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) was a unit assigned to deny information to the Japanese, and more specifically, to arrest and investigate suspected Filipino collaborators, spies, and other potential threats to the US. In this memoir, Westling describes his training as a CIC agent before being deployed to MacArthur's command. He saw service in Leyte (where he was wounded) and Manila, and he details his encounters with some of these suspects (as well as troublemakers) as well as many more Filipino friends he made and worked with. He met Lt. Richard Sakakida and Maj Ernesto Tupas among others. After leaving the intelligence community he became a Protestant missionary. This memoir was published posthumously. Personal, but not as perceptive as Owens' "Eye-Deep in Hell." - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
