Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Account of John Tokarz, elder brother of the author, who was captured in the Bataan in 1942. He refused to talk about his POW experience, although it affected him psychologically. John died in 1991 without revealing much about his ordeals, but the author of this book conducted interviews with survivors and those who knew John, in order to reconstruct his story. The suppressed recollections of an American defender of the Philippines are presented in this work: an air corps enlisted man at Fort McKinley and Nichols Airfield before the war (he was with Capt. Ed Dyess, fighter pilot); fighting on the ground in Bataan; the Death March, prison camps at O'Connell and Cabanatuan, hell ship to Japan, Fukuoka POW camp where he was liberated. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
