| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Researched account of the SS Mactan, an inter-island Philippine vessel which was taken over by the American Red Cross at the start of World War II and converted into a hospital ship. This book details - day by day - the daring voyage of the ship, its crew, doctors, nurses and patients, which sailed from Manila to Australia during the height of the Japanese advance into the Philippines and Southeast Asia. The 274 seriously wounded American and Filipino soldiers were saved from certain death, and the ship's crew and medical staff were regarded as heroes. Appendices provide copies of documents on the mission. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
