Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - This work is the winning entry to the biography writing contest to commemorate Capt. Francisco Salazar (real name: Vicente Cubero), first anti-Japanese guerrilla leader in Bohol during World War II. Salazar kept the flame of freedom alive in the island and organized Bohol’s resistance movement. He led raids against the Japanese and escaped death many times, giving him an indestructible reputation. He led a major attack on Tagbilaran in October 1942, catching the Japanese off guard. Unfortunately, Salazar paid for his daring with his life, and has been recognized by the local government. This biography, by a former guerrilla who was part of Salazar’s command, won the first prize in the contest which was jointly sponsored by the Province of Bohol and the City of Tagbilaran. It is published in whole in Barrera and Israel’s book, "The War Exploits of Captain Vicente T. Cubero Alias Capt. Francisco Salazar." - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
