Summary, Etc.
  • Summary, etc. - Division history of the 11th Division, Philippine Army, one of ten reserve divisions mobilized in 1941 to defend the Philippines. The 11th Division, which became part of the USAFFE, was drawn from northern Luzon, and was placed in beach defenses from La Union to Pangasinan. The Japanese however outflanked the prepared positions and overwhelmed those they came into contact with. The division withdrew to Bataan, fighting delaying actions; in Bataan, the division occupied the western sector and fought in the Battle of the Pockets. Narrates cases of heroism among Filipino officers and men; briefly discusses the key officers (the commanding general was Brig. Gen. William E Brougher). Much of the text is based on Louis Morton's work, and includes material not directly relevant to the division. A partial roster of officers is appended. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
