| Summary, Etc. |
- Summary, etc. - Personal account, by a Filipino reserve officer (University of the Philippines Reserve Officer Training Corps) assigned to the 88th Field Artillery (Philippine Scouts), just after the outbreak of the war. This is a unique memoir as it gives a Filipino side to the defense of Bataan - the author, being from Bataan, was able to assist his unit immeasurably; as forward observer for the 155mm GPF guns, he was almost alone, in front of the main line of defense, to observe targets for the big guns, far to the rear. Remarkable in its detail. The 88th Field Artillery was mess Sgt Jose Calugas' unit, and Guerrero describes the pride of the unit in learning that Calugas was awarded the US Medal of Honor. Guerrero also has a different experience in the Death March, as he was fortunate to be taken to Camp O'Donnell in a truck. This account ends with imprisonment as one of thousands of Filipino POWs. - Prof. Ricardo T. Jose
