| General Note |
- General note - The town of Catarman was founded in 1622 by the Augustinian Recollects and was placed under the patronage of San Roque. Fray Francisco de la Concepcion was its first parish priest. The eruption of Mount Da-an in 1871 devastated the town and caused its transfer to its present location, then known as sitio Guiob. Fr. Antonio Preciado built a temporary chapel, which was later improved and expanded by his successors. The Jesuit missionaries took over when the Recollects left the island in 1898. Fr. Joseph Bittner, an American Jesuit, reconstructed the church in 1948. (Source: The History of Camiguin, Vicente Elio, 1972) YYY
