Title Statement
  • Title - Cavite Church
General Note
  • General note - The church of Cavite city, c. 1900. The original was a massive structure built of adobe stone, sand, lime and the white of eggs. In the late 18th century, the Spanish Governor de Castro (later referred to as the "Gobernador Tumba Iglesias") ordered its destruction, along with other churches so that adobe stones could be used for the construction of "murallas" as defense walls for the Port of Cavite against prevailing Muslim attacks. The church is the shrine of Our Lady of Solitude in Porta Vaga (Port of Cavite). (See CH00410)
