| General Note |
- General note - The construction of this baroque church was supervised by the Jesuit priests in 1591. According to stories, the work was done in the evening and the people did not know of any construction going on. No machinery was used either. The town''s former name was "Maragondong" which means "maugong" (noise from an incessantly moving sound, like a motor noise). During the Spanish era, the town was nearby a large, murmuring brook. When the Americans came, upon the recommendation of Lope K. Santos, the name was changed to Maragondon. YYY
