| General Note |
- General note - Perpendicular piers support the facade of Romanesque architecture. Religious images of stone are inside niches on top of and flanking the main door. The original church erected in 1614 was of a grander scale, but was bombed during World War II. This town, 61.64 kms. from Cebu City, was named after a vine locally known as "loy-a loy-a", or "balili". The municipality is a sprawling basin of land, approximately 49 square miles in area, surrounded on all sides by a seemingly unending chain of mountain ranges. During the Spanish regime, Barili became the second capital of the province of Cebu. During World War II, a cliff called Palalong became the Golgotha of 13 volunteer guards, and a host of guerillas and innocent civilians were beheaded, beaten or bayoneted in that site. YYY
