General Note
  • General note - This edifice shows Moorish influence, but with columns adorned by Corinthian capitals, portico and railings of windows. The town of Bogo is one of the most progressive municipalities in the province of Cebu. It is a commercial, industrial and educational center. The town was named after a big tree called "bogo", which grew close to the shores of Bogo Bay. The bay was a refuge of fishermen and interisland sailboats coming from Leyte, Samar and Masbate in time of bad weather. The town was founded by one Capitan Aballe in 1600. The first parish priest was the Rev. Jayme Macalit, a Spanish mestizo. Bogo was previously a barrio of Candaya, now the municipality of Daanbantayan. Some Spaniards settled in Bogo because they were attracted by the fertility of the soil. (During the Revolution, former Senator Pedro Rodriguez (deceased) was appointed and served as Municipal President of the town. Civil government was first established in 1907.) YYY
