| General Note |
- General note - Ginatilan was once a barrio of the municipality of Samboan. Its chapel was practically bare; the priest of Samboan had to bring to the place all the things needed by the church. Thus the barrio came to be called "Hinatdan", or the act of bringing something to a certain place. The petition to make the barrio a municipality was granted when the inhabitants promised to build a permanent church. For the convenience of the Spaniards, the name Hinatdan was changed to Ginatilan. The construction of the church and a municipal building was completed on February 2, 1829. The church was made of limestone and coral blacks and has a five-story belltower - the tallest in Cebu province. The style of architecture belongs to the early Christian period, having numerous windows with Roman arches which served as watchtowers because Ginatilan had its share of Muslim depredations. YYY
