| General Note |
- General note - Facade of church was remodeled by Father Francisco Silva in 1969. The first known record of the town dates March 16, 1852, when Father Agustin Melgar performed the first baptism in the locality. The name Moalboal was derived from "Bolanon", the town was founded by Boholano pioneers led by a certain Laurente Sabanal, who came to be known as "Laguno". Today, a street running along the shore where he was buried has been named after him. The last "capitan del pueblo" was Pedro Gako. The first municipal president was Melecio Lambo who as appointed by the military governor of Cebu during the early part of the American regime. During World War II the town was a center of guerrilla activities. Many Japanese were killed in an ambush made at Tamomoy Valley. As a revenge, the town was burned by the Japanese in the afternoon of August 13, 1944. What was left were the ruins of the church, convent, market, municipal hall, and public school. YYY
