| General Note |
- General note - Another photo of the Gothic church of Dumangas showing the transept and the window pairs with pointed arches. Upper decks of the bell towers collapsed during the earthquake of 1948. Dumangas, then known as Halauod (after the river which runs through the place), was one of the two early Spanish settlements prior to the arrival of Legazpi in Panay in 1569 (the other one was Ogtong); came to be known later as Araud or Araut until 1605 when it became Dumangas. The Spaniards landed here during the first year in the islands and it was probably the first town in Panay where the Gospel was preached. The parish was founded in 1578, the third one established by the Augustinians in Panay. Its jurisdiction was extensive since it included Guimaras, Danao, Janiuay, Baong, Danipe, Barotac, Anilao, Bobog and Japitan. YYY
