| General Note |
- General note - Ruins of the bell tower of the Jaro cathedral, built of limestone and red brick tiles in the 1860''s by Bishop Mariano Cuartero. The tower - with a square floor measuring nearly 20''x 20'' feet at the base-had 3 stories capped by a high dome on top of which was a cruciform finial resting on a turret. On four corners and between the first and second decks were statues of the four evangelists. It was toppled down by the earthquake of 1948, leaving only the ground floor approximately 40-feet. It sustained heavy damages during the bombardments 3 years earlier. It used to be the province''s largest and tallest bell tower, measuring more than a hundred feet high. (also see CH00587) YYY
