| General Note |
- General note - Photo shows the town''s newest church of reinforced, concrete erected in 1969, and to the right (in photo), the wooden church built after the second World War. Like many churches in Panay, that of Oton was severely damaged in 1945 and in 1948 during an earthquake. Oton was a leading and progressive pre-hispanic village in Panay. This is gathered from the artifacts recovered in an ancient graveyard in one of its barrios named San Antonio. Excavated in 1967 by Dr. F. Landa Jocano and Alfredo Evangelista of the National Museum, the graves yielded artifacts consisting of Carnelian beads and gold ornaments, iron tools and weapons and Chinese porcelain wares of the Ming dynasty. The people of Oton must have had extensive trade with China during the 15th century. (also see CH00608) YYY
