General Note
  • General note - Seen in photo is the church of San Juan de Sahagun in Tigbauan, Iloilo, built by Fr. FLorencio Martin, O.S.A. in 1867. Tigbauan, meaning "field of reeds", was the second parish founded by the Augustinians in Panay. It was originally an encomienda under Don Esteban de Figueroa. (Source: Angels in Stone, Fr. Pedro Galende, O.S.A., 1996) Restored, facade and bell tower of the church in Tigbauan with a very plain and simple exterior (apart from the decorated center of the facade). The stone church was built by Father Florencio Martin, O.S.A, in 1867. Tigbauan, 22 kilometers from the provincial capitol, was the second parish founded by the Augustinians in Panay. Although founded in 1575 it had no priest of its own until 1580. Thirteen years later it was turned over to the diocese due to lack of personnel. In 1617 it was returned to the Augustinians. Tigbauan, meaning "field of reeds", was an encomienda of Rodriguez de Figueroa. YYY
