- Title - Juan Serapio T. Nepomuceno: Bisayan couple with rooster and earthen jar. Circa 1840.
|
| Notes |
- Notes - In the short skirt favored by peasants and a loose camisa made of guimaras, a fabric woven from abaca, the man is off to the cock pit. The woman wears a long-sleeved, waist-length baro over a pleated plaid skirt (Note: This is one of 12 lithographs reproduced by FHL in 2000 as a set of postcards highlighting 19th-century Philippine costumes. Caption from Robert Macmicking's Recollections of Manila and the Philippines, 1851, reads as follows: "On going out of doors, a handkerchief is often thrown over the head, should the sun be strong, or an umbrella or parasol is carried as a protection against it.")
