- Notes - The woman's cotton baro, saya, and tapis are in one solid color. A kerchief partly covers her chignon, which is held in place by a pin. The man's camisa de chino has a narrow collar and embroidery down the front opening. The turban, tied around the head and knotted at the back, brings to mind the precolonial putong. (Note: This is one of 12 lithographs reproduced by FHL in 2000 as a set of postcards highlighitng 19th-century Philippine costumes. Caption, from Robert MacMicking's Recollections of Manila and the Philippines, 1851: "Blue and purple appear to be the colours most admired, because, although the tastes and caprices of the people may vary in an infinite degree as to the pattern or styles of their dresses, they do not differ much in their choice of the colours which compose them,")
