- General note - Bato is a thriving coastal town in the southwestern part of Leyte. It was formally declared as a town by Royal Decree on February 6, 1886. That same year, Bato became a parish, with Fr. Pantaleon Veyra as the first parish priest. (Source: Leyte Towns: Histories and Legends, Francisco Tantuico, Jr., 1980) Municipality has newly-constructed Catholic church of concrete neatly-landscaped. Bato has 26 barrios and an annual income of P256,626.14, as of June 30, 1971. A 3rd class municipality, politically, it belongs to the fourth congressional district.
