General Note |
- General note - Church in Quiapo district, Manila, c. 1906. This church, erected in 1889 by Father Eusebio de Leon, was a reconstruction of the original destroyed by the great earthquake of 1865. The Filipino clergy has administered the parish of Quiapo since the seventeenth century. Devotees flock to it every Friday for their novena to Jesus Nazareno (official name of the Black Nazarene). On the night of Oct. 30, 1929, a great fire leveled this church to the ground. The present church, which survived World War II, was built in 1936 and was designed by Architect Juan Nakpil. YYY
