General Note
  • General note - An emerging provincial tourist attraction is this chapel in the Hacienda Santa Rosalia (a 50-minute drive from Bacolod City) of the Gaston family in Manapla. It is located in the heart of the hacienda, surrounded by the workers'' homes. The overall motif is that of a "salakot", or hat, although not peculiar to the province. Carabao cartwheels are made use of as sliding walls and. window frames. The roof is composed of lumber arranged like a cone. Muslim gongs are substituted for church bells. Built in 1966 by Rev. Guillermo Gaston, circular in shape to symbolize eternity. The color scheme, a mixture of dark hues, symbolizes the ever-changing world people live in. The hardships of farm life, as well as its joys, are reflected in the cartwheels. The flooring, a mixture of cement and blue sand from an adjoining beach, was finished in the rough to symbolize imperfections of the world. YYY
