- General note - Tayum Church Side. Exterior shot shows brickwork of the Tayum church. There are also large buttresses flanking the side door stairways built against the wall of the nave and leading up the roof. The function of these stairways is unknown. Although they may act as buttresses to some extent, this could not have been their main function as they are found side by side with proper buttresses. Whatever the reason for the existence of these exterior stairways, they are a distinctive feature of colonial Ilocano churches. YYY
