| General Note |
- General note - The Augustinian religious mission report placed the erection of the town in 1595 though Fray Valentin Marin y Morales claimed it was in 1612. The townsite was in a barrio the friars christened San Juan (now known as Bigaa Matanda) and which was lying at the left bank of the river. By 1629, the mission which was then renamed Bigaa, a name derived from a tree of the buri family, was made a vicariate. In the succeeding years, it became a barrio of Bocaue and was only reseparated in 1911. The present town church was erected in 1805 in the new mission site at the right bank of the river. The date of the church''s construction is still inscribed in the old bell at the belfry. A recently-renovated facade bears elegant yet simple Roman lines. The five-arched portico and the niche containing the image of Saint Lawrence lend a note of solemnity at the main entrance. One foot-long and two feet-wide adobe stones were placed one atop the other to produce the two meter-depth of the church walls.YYY
