| General Note |
- General note - Aside from the lower floor of the bell tower, only the exterior of the church transepts survived the fire of 1798 and the devastation of World War II. Photo shows detail of the eastern transept, projecting at right angle from the main body structure consisting of a single nave, and forming what appears to be a short left arm of the cruciform cathedral. Thrusting upward between them is a dome on a square base, covered by a triangular galvanized-iron roofing, The dome is a salient feature in Byzantine architecture while the addition of transepts and the elongation of the chancel, to effect a well-defined cross on plan, is essentially Romanesque. Church construction in the Philippines made use of various architectural styles in one structure. YYY
