| Title Statement |
- Title - Manila Cathedral doorway
|
| General Note |
- General note - Largely, the cathedral is Byzantine in inspiration. Set upon an elevation of one and a half meters, its three-arched doorways that are almost arabesque in style lead to a series of ornately decorated chapels, viz., Capilla de San Juan de Dios, Capilla de Ntra. Sra. de Guia (the patroness of the old diocese after whom the church and convent were once named), Capilla de los Dolores, Capilla de San Pedro, Capilla de Sagrada Corazon, Capilla de Ntra. Sra. de Misericordia, Capilla de Sagrada Familia and Capilla de San Juan de Comasino. The well-proportioned nave is supported by clusters of pillars with gilted capitals. The lofty cupola features a finely structured inside balcony. (also see CH01292) YYY
