General Note
  • General note - Photo-engraving. Hispanidad. January,1941. In February 1900, members of the California Volunteers, cognizant of the importance of the well-fortified complex, took possession of the buildings at the expense of cutting themselves adrift from the mainline support and supplies. After learning of the presence of American troopers in Guadalupe, the Brigada del Pilar took the trail to the town and engaged the enemies in a bloody battle. Only the sturdiness of the walls prevented an American massacre. Realizing that to abandon the church was to allow it to slide into the hands of the insurgents, the Americans blasted the buildings causing their roofs to crumble and their doors to be reduced to ashes.YYY
